Students Put Construction Engineering Management Emphasis Learning to Work, Win Scholarships

Five students from the UA civil engineering department’s construction engineering management emphasis gained real-world knowledge of the construction industry over the summer.

Tina Johnsen and Kevin Burruel won the $3,500 Mike Kolling Memorial Scholarship, an award designed to further students’ interest in construction and heavy civil engineering.

Kyle DerHaag received the $2,000 Simpson Strong-Tie Scholarship, which was established to support education and promote the design and building of safer structures in our communities.

David Rodriguez was awarded the Beavers Scholarship for heavy civil construction. The Beavers Scholarship encourages and supports entry of promising young individuals into heavy engineering construction.

Ana Rapalo-Padilla, a senior in civil engineering construction and Sundt intern, represented the UA at the American Society of Civil Engineers 2017 Construction Institute Student Days, where she and her teammates became the 2017 CI Student Days National Champions.
